Some Survive, Some Thrive, Some Die

I’ve often wondered what makes organizations work, and more specifically, what makes political confederacies work. As David Koyzis points out, The European Union is celebrating its 50th year, and James Skillen of CPJ has some thoughts.

So why is it that some political entities, such as the E.U. or the U.S. thrive, while others, such as the short-lived but well-intentioned Federal Republic of Central America, die a painful, revolutionary death.

Leaders can ask the same things about organizations, in order to understand the influence that factors, many of which are beyond the direct control of leaders, may have on an organization’s life. We’ll look at some specific things we can consider in future posts.
